Concert Review: HYDE Acoustic Concert Tour 2018!

I found out that Hyde was coming to Malaysia through a Facebook ad that I almost scrolled past.

At first I thought it was a scam or that I'd misread the poster until I landed on the organiser's event page, saying that he indeed was coming to KL in May 2018. In fact, it was the only stop he would be making in South East Asia in 2018.

No words could explain how gobsmacked I was, but needless to say I have never bought tickets to something so fast in my life lol.

"After so much requests, we are so excited to announce, one of the most influential vocalists from Japan, HYDE, the lead vocalist from the legendary Japanese rock band, L'Arc-en-Ciel, as well as VAMPS, is finally coming to Kuala Lumpur for the first time with his concert tour entitle [HYDE Acoustic Concert Tour 2018 黒ミサ Asia Live in Kuala Lumpur], Kuala Lumpur being the only stop for South East Asia!!!" - Event page

My heart was beating so fast when I went through the event details, and I couldn't contain my excitement until the day of the show. I could barely sleep the night before.

My experience

Tbh, it wasn't my first time being able to see him live. In 2014, I was lucky enough to get to see him performing in VAMPS and had my mind blown by Hyde's performance.

But that wasn't in Malaysia. So him coming here to perform seemed too good to be true. And if the previous show I went to was any indication of how awesome this show would be, I knew I was in for a treat.

Even made a friend while waiting for the doors to open - a fellow fan from the Philippines!

I didn't get the VIP tickets because I'm not rich lol, but even if I did get them I wouldn't have known what to say to him anyway. I'd be a nervous awkward puddle on the floor haha!

The rules were super strict (e.g. no photography) and I was seated pretty far from the stage so I didn't take any photos during the actual event, but here's some idea of how the show went (from official sources):

With his astonishing vocal range, the diversity of genres he explores, the charisma he carries on stage, the energy he exudes even off-stage, and his androgynous good looks, Hyde is a musician and entertainer like no one else. He is the ultimate one-man show, the perfect package. I'm so thankful that I get to exist in the same lifetime as him. He really gives his all in all of his performances, and it shows.

The 8th Wonder of the World himself, before the concert.

I had such a good time at the concert. I really hope I get to watch him live again. :)
